Evaluation Question Two.

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

My magazine represents social groups in all types of ways. The main way in which my product attempts to represent particular social groups is by having a different genres of music. For example, my magazine includes information mainly about an indie band called 'The Wall Breakers' but also includes names such as Drake and Kanye West within the front cover of the magazine. This puts the rap aspect in to the magazine. Because of this, the indie and rap folk will enjoy the magazine as it includes their type of music bands and artists. When they see the names of the musicians included on the cover, they will want to buy the magazine. It represents different social groups in different ways. If there was a group of friends who were in to indie music, then they would enjoy the magazine, and once they see the names on the front of the magazine, they would want to buy it.

As well as this, the front cover contains a member of the main band with mask on. The audience will want to know what the situation is regarding the image. As well as this, the fans of the band will want to find out what the situation is all about. Additionally, the magazine is aimed at the years 17 to 25, ranging from males and females. Because the range of the age is between around 17-25 years old, it opens up a massive variation of a target audience and therefore allows a much wider approach on to the audience for both rap and indie music. With the colours being used, and with the mask being used, it represents a notorious manner as such. This is because the mask used can mean a whole bunch of things, including bad representations. Within the double page spread of the magazine, I went in to detail about the mask situation, explaining a variety of ways in which the mask could have been used as well as giving examples. This opens up a massive range of possibilities and allows the audience to think for themselves.

With the type of music being used are both rap and indie, it allows a massive variety of music taste. The social groups of these two genres of music will usually be teens, maybe young adults. They can also be seen as a trendy topic of music. The main reason why the two genres of music might be for teens is down to the fact that it is very stereotypical that teens like either one or the other when it comes to rap and indie. On the double page spread, I have mainly focused on the mask situation regarding one of the made up indie bands. This is because I feel as though that would attract even more of an audience from most social groups, whether they are indie or not. As well as this, it refers back to the front cover, and explains it a lot more to the audience, which they would appreciate. Adding on to this, I have used a picture of the person behind the mask revealing his face with the mask beside him. This shows the audience what hey wanted to see and one of the main reasons on why they brought the magazine. I feel as though the front cover is a persuasive front cover as it makes the reader want to buy the magazine to know further information about the certain situation. I believe I have used the situation smartly in this case.
